Advancing Literature, Culture, and Creative Thought

The Writers’ Forum, Imphal was established with a broad vision to promote literary excellence, cultural preservation, intellectual engagement, and social awareness through creative and scholarly initiatives.

01. Literary Promotion

The Forum actively promotes the publication and development of creative and critical literary works in Manipuri language and related fields. It encourages poetry, fiction, drama, literary criticism, essays, children’s literature, and cultural studies while supporting both emerging and established writers.

Through publications, journals, seminars, literary discussions, and interaction programmes, the organization continuously works toward strengthening the literary environment of Manipur and expanding literary engagement among readers and writers.

02. Translation Initiatives

The Writers’ Forum, Imphal promotes translation activities to encourage literary exchange between Manipuri and other Indian as well as international languages. The organization believes that translation serves as an important bridge connecting cultures, ideas, and literary traditions.

Through workshops, collaborative programmes, and translation projects, the Forum has contributed to making Manipuri literature accessible to wider audiences while also introducing literary works from other languages to Manipuri readers.

03. Cultural Preservation

Preserving the cultural and literary heritage of Manipur remains one of the central objectives of the organization. The Forum works toward documenting literary traditions, folklore, oral narratives, performing arts, music, and historical materials for future generations.

Through literary festivals, publications, research initiatives, and cultural activities, the organization continues to strengthen awareness and appreciation of Manipuri identity, traditions, and artistic heritage.

04. Educational Activities

The Forum regularly organizes seminars, workshops, lectures, study circles, competitions, and literary interaction programmes to encourage learning, research, and intellectual exchange. These activities create opportunities for writers, students, scholars, and cultural practitioners to engage in meaningful dialogue and creative development.

Special attention is also given to children’s literature, women’s participation, and educational initiatives that contribute to cultural awareness and literary growth within society.

“Through literature, translation, culture, and education, the Writers’ Forum, Imphal continues its commitment toward preserving the intellectual and creative spirit of Manipur.”
