Literary Recognition & National Engagement
Since its establishment in 1988, the Writers’ Forum, Imphal has earned recognition for its enduring contribution to the promotion, preservation, publication, and development of Manipuri literature and culture. Through literary publications, research, translation, seminars, cultural programmes, and national collaborations, the Forum continues to strengthen the literary heritage of Manipur.
National & State Recognition
The Writers’ Forum, Imphal received official recognition from the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi on 5 August 1996, acknowledging the organisation’s outstanding contribution to Manipuri language, literature, publication, translation, and literary exchange.
Continuing its literary journey, the organisation was also officially recognised by the Manipur State Kala Akademi on 9 June 2026. The certificate affirms that the Writers’ Forum, Imphal, registered under the Registrar of Societies, Manipur (Registration No. 2121 of 1990), is one of the recognised literary organisations of Manipur, subject to its continued adherence to its objectives and the Akademi’s guidelines.
These recognitions reflect decades of dedicated service towards the promotion of Manipuri literature, preservation of cultural heritage, encouragement of writers, and strengthening literary dialogue at both state and national levels.
Institutional Collaborations
Over the years, the Writers’ Forum, Imphal has collaborated with numerous national and regional institutions in organising literary seminars, translation workshops, book discussions, festivals, and cultural programmes. These partnerships have enriched literary exchange and encouraged dialogue among writers, scholars, translators, researchers, and artists.
National Participation
The Writers’ Forum, Imphal has actively represented Manipuri literature across India through literary conferences, translation projects, seminars, workshops, cultural festivals, book fairs, and academic programmes.
By publishing quality literary works, encouraging translation, and promoting cultural understanding, the Forum continues to expand the reach of Manipuri literature while fostering meaningful interaction among literary communities throughout the country.
