Imphal, September 3, 2024 — Writers’ Forum Imphal celebrated its 37th Foundation Day at MDU, Yaiskul Police Lane, Imphal, with the release of several significant literary works that reflect the diversity and richness of Manipuri literature.
A major highlight of the occasion was the release of The Story of a Once Fertile Land, an English translation of selected Manipuri poems translated by Chongtham Rita and published by Writers’ Forum Imphal.
The anthology brings together poems by 39 poets from Manipur, Assam, Tripura, and Bangladesh. It also includes works by three poets whose mother tongues are not Manipuri but who have made notable contributions by writing in both Manipuri and their native languages. The publication serves as an important bridge for introducing Manipuri poetry to a wider English-reading audience.
The event also witnessed the release of two other Manipuri literary works:
- Ningshing Khudam by Naoroibam Indramani.
- A reprint edition of Kwakki Macha Kwak Urokki Macha Urok by Lamabam Viramani.
The Foundation Day celebration reaffirmed the forum’s enduring commitment to promoting literature, encouraging translation and publication, and preserving the rich literary heritage of Manipur for future generations.
